Excerpts From Senate Document #264

Excerpts From Senate Document #264

"Some of our lands, even in a virgin state, never
were well balanced in mineral content, and unhappily
for us, we have been systematically robbing the poor
soils and the good soils alike of the very substances
necessary to health, growth, long life, and resistance
to disease.

Up to the time I began experimenting, almost
nothing had been done to make good the theft. The
more I studied nutritional problems and the effects
of mineral deficiencies upon disease, the more
plainly I saw that here lay the most direct approach
to better health, and the more important it became in
my mind to find a method of restoring those missing
minerals to our foods."

--------------------------------------------------------

A 10-year test with rats proved that by withholding
calcium they can be bred down to a third the size of
those fed with an adequate amount of that mineral.
Their intelligence, too, can be controlled by mineral
feeding as readily as can their size, their bony
structure, and their general health.

--------------------------------------------------------

The public can help; it can hasten the change. How?
By demanding quality of food. By insisting that our
doctors and our health departments establish
scientific standards of nutritional value. The growers
will quickly respond. They can put back those
minerals almost overnight and by doing so they can
actually make money through bigger and better
crops. It is simpler to cure sick soils than sick
people - which shall we choose?"

--------------------------------------------------------

[EDITOR'S NOTE: It would seem that what we
chose instead was NPK, chemotherapy, prednisone,
below- the knee amputations, pacemakers, bypass
surgery, lift- gates and wheelchairs. One fourth of
our Gross National Product (1.2 trillion dollars) is
now spent on medical care, affectionately referred to
(by doctors and drug reps) as "health care."]

Why don't Babies Have Dandruff?

Why don't Babies Have Dandruff?

(Yeah, I know, some don't have much hair either but,
bear with me here.)

Because you wouldn't dream of putting the same
chemicals anywhere on their body that you put on your
own hair. So why do you put those things on yourself?**

While we're talking about the Chemicals you put on your
Baby,... is that anti-freeze?
Do any labels on your baby products mention Propylene
Glycol? Would you have put that on your Baby if you'd
have known it was Ant-Freeze?

Have you thrown that out yet?

On an Anti-Freeze Jug there is a warning to keep it a way
from your pets. It will Kill your Dog or Cat.
But Baby Products Containing anti-freeze are promoted
expecting that you will put them on your babies' skin.

There are safe alternatives to the 'stuff' that Madison
avenue sells you.

Why do you use Toothpaste with a poison warning on the
label? (Check It- 'Contact Poison Control)

Their flashy gazillion dollar ads don't have time for a
disclaimer of all the junk in them, but even if they did, it
would be the TV/Radio equivalent of 'small print' where
somebody with a muffled voice is talking a mile a minute.

: OSHA has identified 884 toxic chemicals commonly used
in personal care products.
:: “Mainstream cosmetics and personal care products
contain about 50 known carcinogenic ingredients.
Many of the harmful ingredients used in personal
care products are also used in tobacco products.”
- Dr. Samuel Epstein, M.D. (Chairman, Cancer
Prevention Coalition)

**( This is only my personal observation, but I'm pretty
sure I never had dandruff until I used (an unamed
dandruff shampoo&shoulders) because it happened to be
all that was available while traveling.)

Toothpaste in Your Rat Poison?

Did You Brush Your Teeth With Rat Poison This Morning?
I’m sure you’ll agree this is a shocking question, but I
want to call your attention to a serious health issue.

Sodium fluoride, which is found in virtually all toothpastes,
is a poison – a toxic substance. In fact, it’s more
poisonous than lead and only slightly less than arsenic.
It’s also the primary ingredient used in rat and cockroach
poison.

It’s added to toothpaste to prevent cavities, however
scientific studies have shown that long-term use actually
makes teeth brittle, causing them to break easily.
Independent scientific evidence over the past 50 years
has repeatedly revealed that fluoride shortens our life
span, promotes cancer and various mental disturbances,
and accelerates osteoporosis and broken hips in old folks.

Also, children have died from swallowing toothpaste.
That's why there’s a warning label required. Check your
toothpaste box, it probably says, “Keep out of reach of
children. If swallowed, contact a poison control center
immediately!” The manufacturer is telling you it’s poison!
– Why would you put it in your mouth?

Scientists and dentists who have attempted to take a
stand against fluoride have received unfair character
assassination from strong vested-interest groups who
profit from the public's ignorance as well as from their
illnesses, and thus their valid points disputing the use of
fluoride never reach the press. (Follow the money.)

By now you’re probably wondering what fluoride is doing
in your toothpaste. We’d like to think our government is
protecting us, right? But, we’re being seriously misled.
The truth is, we have to educate and look out for
ourselves.

The fact is, there is no need for fluoride in toothpaste
because there are other ingredients available that help
prevent cavities that are more effective and safe. But
these ingredients cost more, so the major manufacturers
don’t want to use them.

Fortunately there is an answer.

Toothpaste Cancer Alert

Toothpaste Cancer Alert

By Mark Prigg Science Correspondent And Rebecca
Lawrence, Evening Standard
15 April 2005

Dozens of toothpastes sold at supermarkets are at the
centre of a cancer alert today.

Anti-bacterial cleaning products, including dishwashing
liquid and handwash, are also affected.

Researchers have discovered that triclosan, a chemical in
the products, can react with water to produce chloroform
gas. If inhaled in large enough quantities, chloroform can
cause depression, liver problems and, in some cases,
cancer.

An Evening Standard investigation found dozens of
products on supermarket shelves containing the chemical,
from brand names including Colgate, Aquafresh, Dentyl
and Sensodyne.

Marks& Spencer confirmed today it was removing
products containing triclosan from all its stores and has
been working with Greenpeace to develop alternative
products.

Asda said it was investigating the problem and would be
urgently talking to its suppliers.

Giles Watson, a toxicology expert at wildlife charity
WWF, warned that the long-term effects of exposure to
chloroform were still unknown and advised consumers to
check the bottles before buying products.

"These products produce low levels of chloroform, but
that adds up over time. The amount of gas formed is very
low but I think the key thing is that we just don't know
what the effects are. However, manufacturers do have to
list triclosan on their ingredients, so if consumers are
worried the best advice is to avoid products with the
chemical."

A Tesco spokesman said: "We do not use triclosan in any
of our own-brand products, apart from one anti-bacterial
handwash, which is being reformulated, and our
toothpaste. We believe that triclosan is a very effective
ingredient in toothpaste as it helps fight gum disease and
improve overall oral care."

The Department of Trade and Industry said use of
triclosan was tightly controlled under EU laws brought in
last year, but that they were under constant review.
Researchers in the US found that the chlorine added to
water in Britain reacted with triclosan to produce
chloroform-gas. They found that it was possible for the
chloroform produced when soap containing the chemical
mixes with chlorinated water to be absorbed through the
skin or inhaled. Professor Peter Vikesland, of Virginia
Tech University, who carried out the research, said: "This
is the first work that we know of that suggests that
consumer products, such as antimicrobial soap, can
produce significant quantities of chloroform." He has
called for governments around the world to regulate the
chemical more closely.

Products affected

Triclosan is in:

Dentyl mouthwash
Colgate Total fresh stripe
Colgate Total
Sensodyne Total Care
Tesco own brand toothpaste
Mentadent P; Aquafresh

Important Health Warning…

Would you buy and drink a bottle of water if the label
said: Spring Water - contains 2% toxic chemicals?
Of course you wouldn’t, you’d look for a bottle that
contained Pure Spring Water.

Would you use a shampoo and conditioner if you knew
they contained cancer-causing chemicals? I think not. But
the fact is, what you don’t know can harm you.
Surprisingly enough, many personal care products from
major brand manufacturers such as: Shampoos,
Conditioners, Toothpaste, Deodorants, Shaving Creams,
Moisturizers, Cosmetics, etc. can be loaded with potential
Cancer Causing, and harmful ingredients. Here are a few
more facts you should know…

: OSHA has identified 884 toxic chemicals commonly used
in personal care products.
:: “Mainstream cosmetics and personal care products
contain about 50 known carcinogenic ingredients.
Many of the harmful ingredients used in personal
care products are also used in tobacco products.”
- Dr. Samuel Epstein, M.D. (Chairman, Cancer
Prevention Coalition)

For instance, here’s just one of the many toxic
ingredients: Diethanolamine or DEA is a common
ingredient in shampoos and bath products. DEA and any
combinations of DEA, including the widely used Cocamide
DEA have been found to pose a serious health risk to
consumers. The dangers of DEA were reported on CBS
This Morning, in which Dr. Epstein, M.D. of the
University of Illinois and one of the world's foremost
toxicologists, testified about the results of his study in
which he found that DEA is “a potential carcinogen” and
that even in small doses, repeated use of DEA increases
the risk of cancer. Further comments by Dr. Epstein
criticized regulatory agencies and the cosmetic industry in
the US for not taking any action to phase out its use
although European governments had done so already.

The skin is highly permeable – think about the nicotine
patch. Nicotine is delivered into the blood stream right
through the skin. The same thing happens to personal
care products you put on your skin every day. They are
absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream. If the
personal care products you use contain harmful
ingredients, these ingredients can build up in your liver,
kidneys and other vital organs and tissues and have the
same long-term effect as cigarette smoking. Many
experts believe that this is a major reason cancer rates
have skyrocketed. One in three people in the US today
will get cancer.

Most people believe that the government would never
allow harmful ingredients to be used in personal care
products, and are shocked to find out that the FDA has
been aware of this problem for years, but has done
nothing about it. The fact is, these products are the least
regulated products under the Federal Food, Drug and
Cosmetic Act. There is no pre-market safety testing,
review, or approval of these products required.
Manufacturers can use anything they want. The
government is not protecting us.

Luckily, there is a solution

Last Weeks List

Are Any of these listed on Products in your Home?

SLS SLES
Propylene Glycol
Fluoride in many forms
Aluminum
Talc
Alcohol
Phthalates
DEA
Just make a quick check. You will want to check again
later I'm sure, after I fill in the rest of those descriptions.

The rest of the story:
These are not the result of my opinion or belief or
guesswork. This information is substantiated by Research
confirmed by OSHA, FDA and Medical groups around the
Globe.
Sodium Lauryl or Laureth Sulfate (SLS or SLES) (Engine
De-Greaser, Garage Floor Cleaner) In many Shampoos,
toothpastes.

Propylene Glycol (Anti-Freeze) In Moisturizers, hair
conditioners, wrinkle creams, Baby Wipes, Baby Lotions.
(Did he say Baby Products?)

Fluoride (toothpaste, drinking water). May Contribute to
Brittle Bones as we get older.
Many 'Broken Hips' are related to Brittle Bones.
Read the warning label on your toothpaste about
'If swallowed, contact a poison control center
immediately'.

Aluminum compounds (clorhydrate etc.)
Used in Anti-perspirants, deodorants.
Linked to Possible Alzheimer's, Breast Cancer.

Talc (Deodorants, Baby Powder).
Linked to Cancer

Alcohol (Mouthwash) Some are 40 Proof or more.
Oral or throat cancer.

Phthalates (In many Beauty care products - hair spray,
deodorant, nail polish, perfume.
Linked to liver, kidney, lung damage.

DEA (Shampoo, bubble bath, shaving cream)
Phased out (Banned) in Europe.
Linked to Liver, kidney cancer.

Just a quick thought.
Have you or a friend ever quit smoking?
Did you use a patch? (Nicotine?).
Have you ever used a small patch to alleviate 'sea-
sickness or
car-sickness'?

Amazing how these 'Compounds' are so effective even
though they are only applied to your skin.
Some of these facts are more shocking than others.
The FDA has been aware of this for quite awhile.
Did you know that the regulations applied to the
contents of our food and drugs do not apply to Cosmetics
and Beauty products?
They aren't considered pharmaceuticals so they aren't as
stringently tested and the processes used in manufacture
aren't as closely monitored.

We've all heard the term 'by-products'.

Do 'unintended, undocumented by-products' accumulate?
If they do they may be in your liver, kidneys, bones,
joints, or fat tissues.
This is not to say that the Manufacturers are negligent or
malicious. It's just less expensive this way.
It's also not legally necessary to list ingredients if they
are less than 1% of the content. (US anyway).

So, those Questions again.
NOT 'What do I TAKE to
(Feel Better, Lose Weight, regain my energy, regain my
stamina,
Enjoy My days again, make parts of my body larger or
smaller.)'
The Question we should ask First HAS TO BE;
(What do I STOP doing?)

If you came Home and your Kitchen was flooding with the
faucet running,
overflowing onto the floor, through the house, would you
first:
Grab a Mop?
Grab a Plunger?
Open the Doors to let the water out?
Or turn the faucet off.

The Questions That follow Are:
How do I educate myself?
What Questions do I ask NOW?
What do I eliminate?
What do I look out for from now on?
Are There Things I can do about this for my Family?

These Questions do have answers, answers that will
effect the rest of your Life and that of your Family and
Friends.
